It's a way to get \u003cstrong\u003emultiple colors\u003c\/strong\u003e on a print by carving away or \"reducing\" the block. For example, you carve the outline of the profile of a bird \u0026amp; carve away everything on the outside of the image. You ink the bird in yellow. You print the bird 10 times using yellow ink.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou want the wing to be navy blue. Everything that you want to stay yellow (the bird's head \u0026amp; its back), you carve away. You print the wing \u0026amp; its lower body in navy blue on top of the dry yellow prints. Now you have a bird with a yellow head \u0026amp; back \u0026amp; a blue wing \u0026amp; bottom half.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou want the belly of the bird to be orange. You carve away the wing, now you only have the belly \u0026amp; legs left. You print the bird 10 times using yellow ink.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou want the wing to be navy blue. Everything that you want to stay yellow (the bird's head \u0026amp; its back), you carve away. You print the wing \u0026amp; its lower body in navy blue on top of the dry yellow prints.
